Ghent Workgroup invites you to the 9th Conference on Information and Graphic Arts Technology
GHENT, BELGIUM – March 5, 2024 – Ghent Workgroup invites you to participate at the 9th Conference on Information and Graphic Arts Technology, which will take place at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana, Slovenia from 11 to 12 April 2024.
While being in Ljubljana for their spring technical meeting, Ghent Workgroup will actively participate and present a few interesting topics at the 9th Conference of Information and Graphic Arts Technology.
The two-day scientific conference will provide a unique opportunity to bring together researchers and experts from different fields of graphic communications to share their knowledge and knowhow, and take part in discussion, while providing a starting point for further development in the fields covered by the event topics.
Freddy Pieters, member of Ghent Workgroup and speaker at the Conference states: “Universities are the breeding ground of future generations of decision makers. In this respect it is important for students and professors alike to be informed about important new developments in their fields of expertise.”
Prior to the meeting and conference, Ghent Workgroup will present a technological forum for the students of Ljubljana University, where the future of PDF will be discussed. Prof. Raša Urbas, Head of the Chair of Information and Graphic Arts Technology adds: “It’s very important for the Ghent Workgroup to raise awareness of correct approach to the steps of graphic prepress and printing amongst the future generation of print.”

Preflight and its role in print production
Thursday 11 April 2024 at 10 am – Christian Blaise (Marketing Officer GWG)
Many stakeholders are working on delivering a perfect file from agency to press. Therefore, to ensure the quality of the exchanged material, preflight has been playing a key role in this production chain. This presentation will cover the evolution of preflight, from the early days where the control focused on technical aspects of the received PDF, current preflight processes where on top of the technical check, job content is also preflighted, to the future of preflight and correction using AI.
PDF2.0 and PDF/X-6
Friday 12 April 2024 at 9 am – Freddy Pieters (member GWG)
Although PDF 2.0 has already been published in 2017 the adoption rate is still very low. This presentation focuses on the new features of PDF 2.0 that are relevant for the graphic industry. It provides insights in the added value and also lack of added value of some of these new features. These insights can help explain why PDF 2.0 has not yet established itself, but also why authoring application developers should make more efforts to support it. As support for PDF2.0 rises users will also have to rely on the use of PDF/X-6, a new version of the PDF exchange format that is based on PDF 2.0.
