Video Tutorials

The international project “GWG Video Tutorials” was carried out within the framework of the GWG and ran from February to June 2021. A total of  first-year students from the Graphic and Media Technology program at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering at the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) took part. The aim of the project was to redesign and simplify selected content from the GWG video tutorials, since highly technical and strictly professional material can sometimes be difficult to understand. This project was carried out at the same time as the “GWG Infographics”project, with the goal to comparing, rethinking and evaluating how the same content can be presented in different ways.

2020 - 2021

The project was lead and supervised by three mentors Prof. Dr. Raša Urbas, assist. Prof. Dr. Urška Vrabič Brodnjak and assist. Andrej Učakar, who divided the students into 15 groups. Group work is crucial for students to learn working in teams, making compromises and listening to each other.

Students were given detailed instructions on how to create and redesign 8 existing GWG video tutorials. In presenting the content, which they, where needed supplemented for easier understanding, had to use the GWG style guide, which defines colors, fonts, and other elements of GWG’s corporate identity. All the videos were created in English, while some of the students decided to prepare it also in Slovene. The students showed a lot of creativity, ingenuity, innovation and willingness to work.

The students’ work can be seen on the website of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Over 50 first-year students of Graphic and Interactive Communications participated in the »GWG Infographics« project under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Raša Urbas and Assist. Prof. Dr. Urška Vrabič Brodnjak.

Working in 14 groups, students transformed GWG video tutorial content into infographics covering 8 technical topics. All work followed the GWG style guide and was created in both Slovenian and English for digital and print formats.

Led by Denis Salicetti, TAGA Italia

2023 - 2024

Born from the synergy between TAGA Italia, the Ghent Workgroup, and the “Nervi-Severini” Art High School in Ravenna, this project represents an innovative bridge between academic education and the professional world. Taking place between October 2023 and June 2025, the initiative involved 16 talented students from the fourth and fifth years of the graphic design course with an ambitious goal: to translate the complexity of GWG technical documentation into accessible language, creating “videos made by young people for young people.”

The result is a series of eight animated videos (in Italian and English) tackling topics that are crucial for anyone working in the graphic arts. The narrative journey starts with the basics of color management, illustrating color theory and the role of ICC profiles, before delving into color conversions, rendering on digital devices, and the delicate transition from RGB to CMYK. It also explains the importance of calibration for achieving faithful print reproduction and details file production with a guide to creating PDF/X-4 Plus files and an analysis of the differences between various PDF/X specifications. The series is completed with essential technical focuses on correct bleed settings, the use of rendering intents for precise color conversion, and resolution management for optimal image representation.

The project, coordinated by Denis Salicetti under the supervision of Ilaria Finotelli and the guidance of teachers Matteo Valtancoli, Marika Bigoni, and Domenico De Lisi, served as a fundamental training ground for teamwork. The students demonstrated creativity and ingenuity, utilizing the visual identity of GWG and TAGA Italia to produce resources that have already received acclaim from industry professionals on LinkedIn.

The entire initiative is a testament to TAGA Italia’s commitment to nurturing tomorrow’s talent and fits perfectly within the association’s mission: connecting students, educators, and professionals to advance technical knowledge and promote innovation in the graphic arts sector.
