Call to Action - 3D Print expertise requested!
GHENT, BELGIUM – March 26, 2024—Do you know about the standards used in 3D print workflows, or do you have experience with problems caused by a lack of standards? The Specification Subcommittee of the Ghent Workgroup, one of the places where new print-related standards are born, is looking for 3D Print experts to join its effort to standardize this exciting industry.
“About two months ago, the GWG launched an appeal to find experts in the textile print and 3D print market segments,” says Dave Zwang, long-time print industry consultant, and Chair of the GWG: “Our experience from other markets clearly shows the advantages of standardization – no automation without standardization for example. With the expertise the GWG has in developing standards for different print segments, we believe we are ideally placed to also play a role in the 3D Print segment.”
The recent call-out for experts already resulted in an online kick-off meeting for textile print experts and the addition of a dedicated textile print session at the upcoming GWG meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on April 10 and 11, 2024. The GWG hopes to replicate this with a number of experts from the 3D Print field, to also start working along standardization here.
When can you contribute?
The GWG is looking for people with different levels of expertise and experience in 3D Print. We are interested in hearing from you if you have theoretical knowledge of production methods and the software or hardware used or hands-on experience as a print company. The Ghent Workgroup is open to printers, software or hardware manufacturers, consultants, educational institutions, and, last but not least, industry associations. The group organizes three physical meetings annually, but cooperation is possible in different ways – including entirely online – too. Send an email to admin@gwg.org to learn more.
The Ghent Workgroup, formed in June 2002, is an international assembly of industry associations, suppliers, educators and industry members from around the globe. The Ghent Workgroup’s objective is to establish and disseminate process specifications for best practices in graphic arts workflows.
Since its inception almost 20 years ago, the organization has consistently produced numerous process specifications for PDF exchange, as well as developing useful tools for automating processes and testing and establishing consistent PDFs for print, publishing and packaging production – all available free at
